Long Appointments
It’s clear to me after many years of running late in GP land that comprehensive care takes time.
A first consultation with me is 60 minutes. This gives us an opportunity to discuss all your concerns in detail. I will seek to understand your background history (including any past medical history, family history, and your social setting). We will ensure that all health screening is up to date. Depending upon the concerns and questions you bring in, we may perform a physical check and arrange any necessary tests. We will start to establish a team where needed (which could include referral to a psychologist/physiotherapist or specialist).
Along the way, I will hope to gain an understanding of your sense and concerns so that we can acknowledge these and work towards solutions together.
Some of my patients bring a checklist of their concerns, and if this system helps you- go for it! If you have results of any relevant recent tests performed please bring them along or let our team know so we can request copies. If you have none of the above- I am more than happy to work with a clean slate!
Often following a long consultation the plan and discussion can be complex. I can offer you an email summary of the consultation so that you don’t have to remember everything that was discussed.
Follow up appointments are generally 30 minutes duration. Typically a follow up will be reviewing of symptoms and results, tweaking plans and team arrangements, and addressing any new concerns. Many of my patients prefer to have the follow up appointment via telehealth (video), and I am happy to support whatever suits you and your circumstances.
